wanted: ice cold water

I hope you aren't on your 50th straight day of 90° temperatures, as we Tennessee folk are.
It.has.been.hot.and.miserably.humid.
I am always anxious for fall but this year it really can't get here fast enough.
Jay unfortunalty has to be out in this horrible heat several times a day; poor guy.

We went fishing this past weekend and even those little guys know its too hot out.
I hadn't ever been night fishing so it was a fun and interesting experience.
Any excuse to go to Chilhowee Lake I'm usually for; it's one of my favorite places.

So this weekend I am going to my mamaws to take pictures of her hummingbirds.
And I am so exited.
I haven't really played with my D90 since I got it in April and I have been studying up.
She has about 100 hummingbirds, if not more; this is a true statement.
I can't wait to share pictures...it's truly an amazing, unbelievable sight.
My family has always had a love for these sweet birds.
And this year, I finally got one of my own.
happy. happy.

hey, stay cool! pretty colors and cooler weather are getting closer.

in love.

my nikon D-90 arrived yesterday. i am so, so happy.

photography is my passion. both taking and looking.  it just took so long to get my camera for two reasons, pricey being the first and never being able to justify spending that on myself, being the second. sweet Jay totally surprised me with an early anniversary gift to help get the camera. thank you, love. i have to admit i was a bit bummed last night when the few pics i took didn't turn out like perfection. this is silly, i know. there is so much to learn with this camera and i am excited to begin. i know what type of photographer i want to be. hopefully the weather will be perfect this weekend for a day trip to the mountains.

morning of smiles

we had our fall pictures made earlier today. i couldn't have asked for more perfect weather.
i got off work a little early last night to frantically find something to wear for our shoot.
three hours at the mall, i left flustered and empty handed.
last minute, i ended up at my favorite store, in which i should've started at to begin with.
old navy - i heart that store way too much.
as for today, i had a perfect hair day.
my outfit was perfect.
my husband looked great.
and he even had my weekend scruffies (read here).
it was so much fun. our photographer was awesome.
it was just a wonderfully-perfect-awesomeful morning.
the last set of professional pics we had made were our wedding pictures, which were in 2001.
it was back in the time when all pictures were so posed, you looked like statues and the poster child for the definition of uncomfortable.
eh, i suppose i am a decade late coming in with the "cool" pictures.
just give me about twelve more days and i can finally share.
this will be a happy day.

hope your having beautiful, fall weather today.

smile

it has rained so much lately.
i usually don't complain, as i love the rain - the sound. the smells. the breezes that come with it;
but it has rained so much. that its really hard to recall any days of sunshine that we've had.
they say all the rain and cooler weather will make for beautiful fall foliage. && that im excited about that. we are awaiting the leaf changes, as we are having fall photos done outside.
& these, embarassingly so, will be our first professional photos really since our engagement,
or, of course the wedding. ridiculous, right?
ive asked for a new camera for Christmas, one of the fancy ones.
i had one, once. didn't know what i had, and sold it on ebay.
i chalk that up, as yet another time, "my momma was right."
let me tell you the story, the brief version.

i once went on a business trip to new orleans.
my hotel card key was stolen. and my hotel room broken into.
i didn't realize this until i started looking for my cell phone charger, which was in my laptop bag.
i quickly realized that my laptop,
the laptop bag which also had my cell phone charger and billfold,
my camera; fancier than the one i have now, but not as fancy as the one i want, &
my purse - weren't in my room.
i call hotel security.
they could do nothing.
&& this was the hilton garden.
so they called the police.
the report wast taken.
the next morning. i got a strange call on my cell -
from a man who owned a business several blocks away.
he verified my name and the company i worked for.
he had my business card.
a card in which he had found inside my laptop bag -
that he had found stashed in a hot dog cart, outside his office.
the police was called and it was returned to me.
my camera never was recovered.
this camera was so special to me.
it was my gift from the Mr; one Christmas when we didn't have much.
so getting it back, my efforts were relentless.
the hotel wouldn't replace it.
my company wasn't going to replace it. but, they did.
&& with the much flashier. much more complicated one.
all i saw was numbers on the shiny digital screen. it was colored a crisp black.
even came with a lens; that had to be used. but it was all german to me.
i tried & tried to figure this camera out, but no luck.
so on ebay it went; & in return i got a way cheaper digital camera & a new desktop computer.
&& it wasn't until after it sold, did i realize - i had one of those fancy ones.
so heres to hoping santa has noticed how sweet ive been, this year.

what a sweet week

autumn blessings

[using this also for my thousand words thursday]

ive totally missed you for the past few days.
its flu season. i work at a children's hospital.
so, that should explain my short disappearance.

its been such a perfect day.

i am sitting here now, on my patio, as this fall weather has settled snuggly in east Tennessee. with laptop in hand and a warm latte on the side, the breeze is cool and crisp. the sun shining brightly from the east. the leaves have begun to change; the occasional one floating and landing beside me.

this day is perfect.

i love fall.

i love fall in east tennessee.

taken this beautiful morning
